More Parks, More Play: Kelowna Invests Big in Outdoor Spaces by BoostBC
Kelowna residents will soon have even more spaces to play, relax and connect as the City moves forward with 18 park projects in 2026.
With more than $25 million dedicated to park improvements in this year’s budget, the City is continuing its commitment to building vibrant, active and welcoming neighbourhoods.

“Parks are where Kelowna comes together,” said Melanie Steppuhn, Parks Planning and Design Manager. “They support active living, connection and vibrant neighbourhoods; which is why more than $25 million has been dedicated to park improvements in the 2026 budget.”
Of the 18 projects underway, four are continuing from 2025, six will break ground this year, and the remaining projects are progressing through planning and design stages. Together, they represent a significant investment in the health, recreation and quality of life of Kelowna residents.
City Park, one of Kelowna’s most iconic gathering places, remains a key focus. Work on separated pathways and improved water access began in 2025 and will continue into spring 2026, making the park safer and more accessible for cyclists, pedestrians and beachgoers alike. Planning is also underway for a new swim venue, with construction expected to begin later this year, further enhancing the park’s appeal as a summer destination.

Downtown Kelowna will see the expansion of the popular Art Walk between Doyle Avenue and Queensway. The project includes a new crosswalk and other improvements at Doyle Avenue, improving safety and accessibility in the area. Construction is scheduled to begin in February and wrap up by June, creating a more seamless and inviting connection through the cultural district.
In Glenmore, construction continues on the Recreation Park through 2026. A new grass sports field is on track to open for play this spring, providing much-needed space for local sports groups and casual users. Pathways, landscaping, pickleball and tennis courts, along with site furnishings, will continue to take shape throughout the summer, transforming the park into a comprehensive recreation hub.

Following extensive resident feedback collected last year, the design for Aurora Park located between Aurora Crescent and Froelich Road is now complete. Construction of this new neighbourhood park is anticipated to begin this summer, delivering a community-informed space designed to meet local needs.
Upgrades at Mission Recreation Park
Mission Recreation Park is also set for significant improvements. Beginning in March 2026, work will include new pathways, a modular washroom in the park’s southeast corner, plaza space and a playground. Construction is expected to continue into 2027, ensuring long-term benefits for residents in the Mission area.

Beyond these highlighted projects, the City is also investing in essential park infrastructure, including irrigation systems and renewed playground equipment. These upgrades help ensure that Kelowna’s parks remain safe, modern and welcoming for everyone.
