Learn to do by doing | BoostBC

No one starts out knowing how to run a business. And when you get started, it can feel daunting trying to figure out the 'how to' part of it.

The motto of 'learn to do by doing' is an approach that encourages you to learn as you go and build the necessary knowledge from hands on experience. Even if things don't go right the first time, the experience from these failures is just as important as the things that go right.

Jumping in head first, and learning by just starting can be scary. So what are some things you can do to get started?

Take a Class.

There are many classes you can take that offer hands on learning. Everything from book keeping, to computer classes, to marketing. This gives you the opportunity to practice these skills before you implement them into your business.

Trial & Error.

The good old, tried and true, trial and error. Sometimes the only way to learn how and what works, is to give it a go. Create a Social Media page, and try different posts to see what brings in more traffic. Send out emails to potential clients and see which ones have success, and continue to build on those.

Ask for Help or Guidance.

Reach out to someone who has been there, someone who has started up their own business or is in the industry you want to be in. Ask them to mentor you, or if you can shadow them for a day to see what you can learn.

What is comes down to, is growth comes from stepping outside of your comfort zone. It's important to get involved, experiment and build experience, even if it means learning from your mistakes.
