Alertable – New Emergency Notification System for the Central Okanagan | BoostBC

Alertable is the latest emergency notification system that will send alerts to residents, businesses and visitors during critical events, including fires and floods to name a few. This new system allows you to choose the communication style you are notified through which includes App notifications, email, text/SMS or phone call. You can also set up your location to be more specific within the Okanagan when setting up your Alertable account. If you already subscribed to receive email emergency notifications from the Central Okanagan Emergency Operations (EOC), follow the instructions listed below to update how you receive notifications for future events.

What you need to do
1. Visit coemergency.ca/subscribe
2. Sign in with your email address
3. Select “Are you already registered with Alertable?” Select ‘Yes’
4. Choose Email option and enter your email address, and press ‘Enter’
5. An access code will be sent to your email
6. Add access code and click ‘Verify’
7. Update/add your preferred notification methods (app, email, text/SMS, phone)
8. Choose the locations and alert types (critical, advisory, informational) you want to receive
9. To unsubscribe, select “Unsubscribe All”
Alternatively, you can download the Alertable app and follow the step-by-step instructions to set up your preferences. If you allow the app to “Follow” your device, you will receive notifications while travelling in or out of the area. Questions regarding setting up Alertable, visit: alertable.ca

Emergency information will still be shared through the original Central Okanagan Emergency Management official channels, including their website, media and social media outlets. However they recognize that email simply is not the best way to reach most residents, and Alertable is making it easier by allowing you to choose what works best for you.
This new system will make it quicker and easier for you and your business to receive updates on critical events happening in your area, creating a safer Okanagan community. It is important to take the time to subscribe and/or update your information to ensure the updates reach you in a way that works best for you. Help protect you, your family and your community by staying informed.
