From Strangers to Community: How Block Connectors Are Transforming Kelowna By BoostBC

In neighborhoods across Kelowna, a quiet but powerful movement is taking root, one built on simple, meaningful connection. At the heart of this movement are Block Connectors: everyday residents who are choosing to turn streets, apartment floors, and condo complexes into thriving, connected communities.

Block Connectors are volunteers who focus on fostering face-to-face relationships with the 10 to 20 households closest to them. Rather than letting neighbours remain strangers, they take the initiative to introduce themselves, learn names, and create a sense of belonging. It’s a small step with a big impact transforming unfamiliar surroundings into places where people feel seen, valued, and supported.

What makes Block Connectors so impactful is their ability to create a welcoming atmosphere. Whether it’s organizing a casual coffee meet-up or a seasonal gathering, these individuals bring people together in ways that feel natural and inclusive. These moments of connection help break down barriers and spark conversations that might not otherwise happen.

Beyond social events, Block Connectors also encourage neighbours to share their unique gifts, skills, and passions. One neighbour might be an avid gardener, another a great cook.
